Fringe D1 prospects must go play JUCO basketball to maintain their valuable minutes while developing must-have skills and going through adversity. The result after two years is a associate’s degree and valuable experience today’s average D1 program seeks.
Instead of paying average players a lot of money in the portal, they’ll gladly shift to JUCO prospects who’ll come in fresh, and are in most cases even better prepared than their D1 peers. Okay! So we all know that JUCO is only for two years, where prospects graduate with a associate’s degree and have a great shot at enrolling at most Division I universities. To focus on the value of returning freshmen, I compiled a 2026-27 JUCO Sophomores Top 25.
This list contains the players I vouch for as being high-major and mid-major-plus prospects that every coach for such school should put on their watchlist immediately. This article won’t have the analysis because most of the roles will change entering year two as they’ll have much more responsibilities.
