Calipari expecting 'big things' from freshman Karter Knox - Inside Arkansas
Karter Knox (#11), son of an NFL legend, during practice at Arkansas

Karter Knox (#11, Arkansas): Freshman, 6'6"

Small Forward — Born: May 16, 2005 (20 years old)

Introduction

While entering college as a Burger Boy, Knox bought into playing a limited role at Arkansas. That’s a testimony to his will to win and improve. At over eight points per game, Knox played his best basketball in the latter stages of the season. He impacted the game with his switchable defense, play-finishing, and reliable stationary shooting. Coach Calipari had many mouths to feed and was forced to give Knox a bigger role during the year.

The standout games against Texas Tech (20 points) and St. John’s (15 points) helped Knox peak at the right time. NBA scouts have been intrigued by his physical tools way before college, where his impactful play confirmed that Knox has feasible long-term potential to grow into one of the league’s better wing-stopping defenders.

This scouting report focuses on his NBA role and his areas of development.

Physical Profile

At 6-foot-5 in socks, Knox has excellent positional size to play the three. The uniqueness comes via his great length, measured at 6’10.25” wingspan, and the incredibly well-filled frame despite his young age. He is built like an NFL linebacker with broad shoulders and a well-filled chest. He has good core strength, and his footwork has improved throughout the season.

Knox is a good athlete who can change the game on both sides by switching from physical play to being crafty. His great understanding of the game helped him solidify a vital connective role. He’s explosive and has a decent first step. With good lateral quickness, Knox is enough of a threat vertically to round out his physical tools, which are one of the main buys for NBA scouts.
